wiki-wiki-fresh

salam!

i understand the concept behind wikis, and it's genius. it's great that there is a way for everyone in society to bring to the table what they know and to share that with others. even though there is a chance that some bad people may use this as a means to lie or to spread false information or whatever, there could be some others that see these negative informations and edit them out.

wikis are easy to use too, which is good.

bookloverswiki

salam!

i like bookloverswiki by princeton public library! i think it would go great with librarything. you can get some book suggestions from bookloverswiki and add them to your list in librarything. awesome. and i saw some pretty good reading suggestions too, especially in their mystery page. booklovers is a website for a summer reading club but that doesn't matter because books are books and the suggested ones on the site seem good.

lib2.0

salam!

i read the wiki page on library 2.0. before, i vaguely knew what library 2.0 meant. now, i vaguely know what library 2.0 means.

hmmm.

basically, what i get from it is that library 2.0 is kind of a new way that libraries are using to stay afloat and not fade into the background of yesterday. libraries don't want to be irrelevant amidst all the exciting technology that's out there today. how they're doing it, i'm not too sure. but it seems to me that libraries are starting to get into some of these social sites to try to reach out to their audience...i guess what i want to say is that libraries are going to where the people are; people are not going to where the libraries are.

is this a good idea? definitely. although it would be kind of weird seeing a public library with a facebook page, it would mean that that library is striving to be a competent institution in society. and that's a must if libraries don't want to slowly die out because every single book is available on google books now and nobody needs to walk into a library anymore......

delicious

salam!

i actually like the idea behind del.icio.us. i've heard of it before, but i was never interested enough to find out what it was about. i see it's little icon on some of my favorite websites, but, i always passed over it.

the thing is about del.icio.us that doesn't push me over the edge is that i think it's more for people who are in clubs or organizations. for just regular folks like me, i dont have that many websites that i must go to everyday that i feel the need to bookmark and tag them. if i was, let's say, in a knit club or whatever, then i would see the need of del.icio.us because i could just tag all the knitting websites that i would wanna use. but since i'm not in any knitting club, i'm not convinced that del.icio.us is necessary in my life :-P

twitter

salam!

this twitter thing is alright. it is kinda like the status function on facebook. you write in what you are doing/thinking/feeling/etc and that's it. nothing special. i just updated my status (or tweet, i should say)two seconds ago... i don't feel any more excited now then i was before :-/

im setting up my twitter mobile. maybe when i get a good tweet moment i can txt it in, haha. anyways, yea, so twitter is alright so far.

librarything

salam!

i actually like librarything! its really easy to find and add books. its way too simple, really. i just find books that i want, click on it, and voila! it's added to my personal library. i'm glad that they have an expansive collection of african literature because all the books i've searched, i've found (including sundiata!). anyways, instead of cataloguing all the books that i want to read on my microsoft access at home, i can have it online. this will be easier for me because i can access this website at the library and reserve the book i need right then and there instead of trying to remember what all was on my list. oooh, and i get to add a librarything widget on my blog!!

and i will be using up the 200 slots :)

findin' feeds

salam!

so far, i am not liking technorati. bloglines is a little better, but not by that much :-P

i like google's reader. i'm fine just manually inputing the blog's url that i wanna keep track of into the google reader. it's simple, no mess, and it WORKS! this is why i like google so much, it gives me what i need right then and there without any complications (at least, so far).

that's all, i guess...

feeds

salam!

i started looking for blogs and i gotta say that i've found some pretty interesting ones (for me, at least). check 'em out: http://www.bloglines.com/public/ndawak :)

this feed thing is actually pretty cool and easy.
instead of going through each blog's website one by one (and even forgetting to check a couple of 'em sometimes) i get 'em all at once!! sweet! this can be really helpful for any individual or company that wants to keep track of new items on their fav websites. it saves time, which is always convenient.

technology: google

salam!

google is seriously amazing. here's a list of my fav google tools: books, blogger, earth, maps, docs, youtube (of course), images, gtalk, gmail, scholar, igoogle and of course, the google toolbar. i know it sounds dorky, but i use these tools on a daily basis. they give me all the info i need, man. all i use to search is google, no yahoo, no msn... i love how google has all of these features in one site...it's amazing. i can use google for every aspect of my life. i use books and scholar and docs for school. i use youtube, gtalk, gmail to keep up with the world and my friends. i love looking up random countries on google earth when i'm bored, lol. i love looking at senegal and south africa. kudos to the inventors of google....truly a display of human intelligence and innovation.

ok, i'm done sweatin' google now. back to real life....

i love cats

habits

salam!

having a goal in mind might seem easy at first glance, but when i think about it, it's actually a pretty hard task for me. i have too many goals swirling around in my head....it's too hard to just pick one and be specific about it. my ideas and goals are too general for that. plus, having a specific goal in mind will mean that i will have to have a systematic way of achieving that goal. even though i love to plan things and think about what i will need to realize those plans, i like to wing it....

i would love to use technology more in my life. i'm not computer savvy like my younger sister, but i can handle my own. actually, i think that technology is pretty fun and interesting. it's amazing seeing what human beings can come up with......i'm really looking forward to the flikr mashups, the wikis and youtube....especially youtube!!! :)
